Multi-Purpose Building • Instrumental Music Wing • Performing Arts Facility

In the performing arts mode, the multi purpose hall’s double sided pivoting acoustic panels are deployed to darken the hall, attain required acoustic standards for music performances and minimise noise transmission to neighbouring residential properties. Speciality Theatre Supplies were engaged to collaborate in the design and install the acoustic panels and winching systems.

The multi purpose hall is equipped with several acoustic control devices, to attenuate sound reverberation within the space and also minimise sound transmitted to the adjacent instrumental music wing and to adjoining neighbouring residential properties.  In all modes of usage the ceiling lining of the hall, consisting of  perforated, corrugated sheet steel with a backing of acoustic absorption insulation helps minimise the reverberation time within the hall.

32 rear wall acoustic panels of 3 different sizes absorb mid to high frequencies.  The front faces of each panel are angled and orientated in different directions to “break up” or disperse sound for a smooth ambience and to reduce “flutter echo”.

Although the multi purpose hall and the instrumental music wing appear to be one building, these two areas are structurally separated.  A 20mm wide gap is maintained between structural walls to minimise impact noise transmission.  Walls separating music rooms from each other are also structurally separated. In addition walls and ceiling spaces are packed with acoustic insulation and walls are lined with 2 layers of 13mm thick plasterboard and compressed fibre cement sheet.  The ceilings and walls within the music wing are angled in different directions to enhance the acoustic quality of the music produced in these spaces.
